Agency

What have I done today? Well, I have done laundry, gone through childhood things that my mom saved for me, worked on a puzzle, got rid of some books, and looked into getting a US address, (for when we're gone).

Overall, it's not exciting stuff, but it has been the best day.

"Wow John, you do live an exciting life!"

Yes, I do. This has been my life for the past few months: 1) gather lots of documentation about everything from criminal history to finances, 2) do all this document gathering for an appointment with a foreign government official to see if it pleases them, 3) get past the first 300 page hurdle just to be given another hurdle.

We've been struggling this new hurdle for two weeks and don't have a solution yet and no recourse for the craziness of the hurdle.

Setting the hurdle aside, I'm taking a break from it all and I am just doing chores. Chores that make me feel good because I have complete agency over them. I completely understand them, they make sense.

They can be completed in a few hours and I can tell when they are done. All giving me a slight sense of success. I welcome this because none of the last few months' activities have had these qualities.

Yes, today is the best day. I'm someone who knows what I'm doing. No matter how small the activity, I have a sense of accomplishment.

P.S. Pro tip: to help get rid of more sentimental items, I recommend taking a picture of them. A lot of the stuff my mom saved for me will never be used nor passed down, so I basically keep them to look at once in awhile, (except I don't). So the best thing is to take a picture of the item. This way if I ever want to go down memory lane, I can and the storage fee is a lot cheaper.
